Buying in Europe

Find and buy directly on the biggest European used-car auction platform

Where can I buy and what should I know?

BCA organises auctions on 50 auction locations spread over 9 countries: Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom. With a daily European supply of roughly 5000 lots you will always find what you are looking for.

When you choose to buy in a specific BCA country, please check all the rules upfront: things like buyer fees, transport and/or other services can differ per country. Below you will find all information.

Auction prices: gross or nett?

The prices of vehicles in the auctions can be presented in two different ways: gross or nett. The price type influences the way you will see the prices in the auction and the way you will bid. To check if you participate in a gross or nett auction, please check the comment on the right side of the vehicle catalogue:

Qualifying gross

This means that prices in this auction include the VAT percentage of the sale country and that your bids will be including VAT. You, as international customer, can buy on 0% VAT. To calculate your invoice price you can simply deduct the VAT percentage of the specific country from your bid.

Example: you see a car at BCA Germany that is presented as “Qualifying Gross”. You want to pay 10,000 euros for the car, so your maximum bid in this auction will be 10,000 * 1.19 (since Germany has 19% VAT) = 11,900 euros. The car price on your invoice will then be 10,000 euros.*

Qualifying nett

This means that prices in this auction are already excluding the VAT percentage of the sale country. You, as international customer, already see the final car price that you can expect on the invoice. You do not need to deduct the VAT anymore.

Example: you see a car at BCA Germany that is presented as “Qualifying Net”. You want to pay 10,000 euros for the car, so your maximum bid in this auction will be 10,000 euros. The car price on your invoice will also be 10,000 euros.*

Margin

This is only applicable on VAT qualifying vehicles. For vehicles that are presented as “VAT Margin Scheme” calculating your bid is not needed: the bid you place is already equal to the car price on your invoice.

* Potential extra costs like buyer fees, export fees and transport fees are not taken into consideration in this example.

Vehicle descriptions

The way that lots are described differs per country. Some countries execute a mechanical check, while other countries only describe optical damages. Therefore it is important to carefully check every lot and look out for the following points:

Multiple downloadable documents

Directly below the vehicle details you will find a bar on which you can select multiple buttons. In a lot of cases so-called external documents will be added here. These documents can contain important information of the vehicle regarding technical state or optical damages. By opening all documents you will not miss any important detail of the vehicle.

Comments field

In the lot description you will find a small field called “comments”. This field will often provide useful information regarding the lot and/or auction.

Condition report

The condition report can sometimes be found below the beauty shots of the car and points out all damages on the interior and exterior.

Should you still have any specific question regarding a lot? Please do not hesitate to contact the sale country via the contact details in the lot description.

After your purchase: what's next?

As soon as you have fulfilled all your responsibilities (payment of the invoice and potential required documents sent back) the BCA sale country will start with the handling of your purchase. This can mean that all essential registration documents will be arranged and the vehicle will be released for pickup, or automatic transport will be set into motion.

Please keep in mind that it is not possible to pick up any vehicle in a BCA country by yourself, but this always has to be done by an official transport company.

For the delivery of your purchase there are two possibilities that differ per BCA country:

  • Automatic transport: BCA automatically arranges transport for you
  • Manual choice: you need to arrange own transport via a certified transport company (of course BCA would be happy to help you by sending a transport price including delivery time)
